Starting from the capital city of Trivandrum where the Kings of Travancore thrived , passing by the backwaters of Alleppey, tea plantations of Munnar, following the cultural trail in Thrissur and culinary trail in Calicut and finally wind up with an exotic wilderness experience in Wayanad.

DAY 1

Arrive at Trivandrum International airport. Our representative shall welcome you from there and transfer to a hotel for the day. Spend the evening at hotel.

DAY 2

After breakfast check out from your room in the resort and proceed for Trivandrum. Spend your day at leisure during first half of the day. Later in the evening visit the world famous Kovalam beach.

Things to do

  • Fishing boat ride - ride on a traditional fishing boat along the coast

  • View traditional fishing methods - Observe how local fishermen spread the large fishing nets to sea and pull them back to shore with fresh catch. You may even be asked to join the activity to experience the feel of it.

  • Iconic Light house - Visit the light house on the southern tip of the beach. There is an observation platform from which you can see Poovar in one direction and the famous Beemapalli mosque on the other.

  • Padmanabha Swmy temple - A thousands of years old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu which is also one of the wealthiest temples in the world. The architectural marvel is sure to awe every traveller.

DAY 3

After breakfast check out from your room in the resort and proceed for Kollam. Kollam is a major hub for cashew and seafood export. Post noon visit Munroe Island where you will be taken for a 3 hour canoe ride through the canals. You can also witness coir making or toddy tapping.

Things to do

  • Munroe Island - Take a canoe ride where one can see the coir retting process, coir weaving, fishing, prawns feeding, migratory bird watch, narrow canals and waterways, coconut farms on the lake shore, lagoons, mangrove plants and the beautiful tiny Islands of Pathupara.

DAY 4

After breakfast check out of the hotel and you will be transferred to Alleppey, known as the Venice of East for a unique houseboat experience. You will be checked into houseboat by noon and the cruise will continue till 5:30 pm. After which the boat will be anchored near shore for the night. Freshly prepared meals will provided on onboard. Overnight stay in houseboat, having standard bedrooms with air conditioner.

Things to do

  • Houseboat Alleppey - Houseboats were originally used by rice merchants to transport rice from Alleppey region to Kochi to be sold to merchants from other part of the world. The shipping took 3 days to reach Kochi and the merchants had converted the boat into their second home to satisfy all their domestic needs during the transport.

  • Fishing - You can experience the thrill of fishing in the great Vembanad lake.

  • Toddy shop visit with palm wine tasting - You can visit a local toddy shop where the locals gather in the evenings to catch up for the chit chat and relax with palm wine and spicy local cuisines for chit chats. You can taste the highly recommended spicy seafood and fresh palm wine here.

DAY 5

After breakfast checkout of houseboat and proceed to Kumarakom. Kumarakom is a serene village on the backwaters of Kerala. You will be checked into a homestay on the banks of Vembanad lake, run by one of the early settlers. Spend your day at leisure enjoying the backwaters, learning few cooking tips on Keralan dishes from the host or engage in some fishing activities.

Things to do

  • Kumarakom - A serene backwater village with calm and peaceful environment. You get to live with a local family in their beautiful house and gel into the local culture and people.
    Fishing - Hire a fishing rod from the host or watch the technique of fishing with Chinese fishing nets from staff. This is a seasonal activity.

  • Cooking class (optional) - If interested you can sign up for cooking lessons from host who can teach you Kuttanadan cuisines.

DAY 6

If you are a birdwatcher , you can visit the Kumarakom bird sanctuary early morning on a country boat. Also you get to witness how the locals welcome the start of a day. After a delicious Keralan breakfast go for farm walk to learn about farming below sea level techniques or go for countryside bicycle ride or simply lazy around.

Things to do

  • Farm walk - walk around the farm run by host wherein you can interact with the hosts and understand the unique technique of farming below sea level.

  • Village Visit (optional) - You can hire a bicycle from the property at an additional cost and set out to explore the countryside. The hosts can give you directions.

  • Bird watching in motor boat (optional) – Hire a motor boat at an extra cost and set out early in the morning for sighting of birds that include kingfishers, woodpeckers, egrets etc.

DAY 7

After breakfast checkout from your homestay and you will be transferred to Munnar. Overnight stay at a hotel in Munnar. Munnar is a beautiful hill station located far away from the bustling city, famous for its tea cultivation and breath-taking beauty. Tea cultivation started here around 1880 by a European planter

DAY 8

After breakfast check out from your hotel and you will be visiting Eravikulam national park located on one of the highest peak in South. Later visit the beautiful Lakkam waterfalls. Post noon check-in to an old planters bungalow tucked deep inside a 2500 acre tea plantation. Spend your day at leisure.

Things to do

  • Eravikulam National Park - Home to endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr’s and an abode of breath taking beauty. The tourism department flies several shuttles from ticket counter to the national park situated in one of the highest peak in south. Walk around the park and absorb the beauty of nature

  • Lakkam Waterfalls - a beautiful waterfall that creates a lot of cascades.

  • Team Bunglow Stay - Check-in to a traditional tea bungle set amid the tea plantations. To perfect spot to trace the tea culture of Munnar.

DAY 9

Spend your day at the bungalow and its tea plantation. Munnar is famous for its tea culture and cultivation. Today you will visit the tea plantation and indulge in few activities that give you a better understanding of tea cultivation and processing.

  • Tea leaf plucking - Engage with the staff at tea plantation to pluck tea leafs in bamboo baskets.

  • Tea factory visit - Visit the factory that processes the tea plucked from here and understand how it is processed into final product

DAY 10

After breakfast check-out from the bungalow and you will be transferred to the Kochi. The travel would take nearly 5 hrs and shall make pit stops in between for viewpoints. On reaching Kochi you will be checked into a heritage property built during the British era situated in Old Kochi..

  • There are no activities planned for today as the journey itself would take some time and you can take a break at view points and waterfalls on the way to Kochi.

DAY 11

After a scrumptious breakfast get ready for a full day sight seeing of Kochi also known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea. Back to hotel in Kochi. You will be visiting the colonial remains of Kochi today.

Things to do

  • Dutch palace - Originally built by the Portuguese and gifted to the royal family of Kochi contains a large collection of historical artefacts like ornaments, garments, weapons etc.
    Jew Street - One of the earliest Jew settlements in Kerala, now is a thriving collection of antique shops.

  • Synagogue - One of the oldest active Synagogues and built around 14th century speaks a lot for itself and the prosperous past of Jewish community in Kerala.

  • Fort Kochi - The Chinese fishing nets on the banks of Fort Kochi is still used for fishing and ruins of Portuguese buildings here are memories of Colonial era.

DAY 12

After breakfast check out from the hotel and you will be transferred to one of the oldest port town of Kerala which was a major hub in spice trading once. Set out on a heritage trail on boat visiting the historical places here. The tour commences at 9:30 am and winds up by 5:00 pm. Night at hotel in Trissur.

Please note that this trip is subject to climate conditions and require minimum of 10 travellers. In case we are not able to conduct the tour at the time of booking we shall provide alternate sight seeing on same day

  • Kottappuram Fort - Built by the Portuguese in 1523, played a significant role in the wars between the Zamorins of Kozhikode and the rulers of Kochi.

  • Kottappuram Market - Quite possibly one of India's oldest markets built in 1790.

  • Gothuruthu - Encounter the vestiges of Portuguese culture on this island.

  • Chavittu Nadakam (seasonal) - Catch live performance of maritime theatre form introduced by Portuguese.

  • Paliam Palace - The home of prime ministers to Kochi royal family which was gifted by King after he was safeguarded from the attack of Portuguese

DAY 13

Today we head for the cultural hub of Kerala “Kalamandalam”. You will be transferred to Kalamandalam where you would be spending half a day with the masters understanding the various art forms, how it is taught and also interact with the Guru’s. The tour will begin by 9:30 and extend till 12:30. Post noon you will be transferred to Calicut. Check-in to hotel in Calicut.

  • Kalamandalam day tour - Established in 1930 by the renowned poet Vallathol is a residential academy for teaching Kerala art forms. They have nurtured some of the finest talents in history of Kerala. You get to spend a day with the masters here accompanied by a guide who would walk you around the academy.

  • Walk around with a guide who can show you around the premises and different classes were each art form is taught.

  • A guru from the academy will join you in between and feel free to chat with them.

DAY 14

Calicut is the food capital of Kerala with many authentic dishes that you would never get in any other part of Kerala. After breakfast you will be transferred to old city of Calicut where the history of Calicut remains. You will be taking a guided walking tour of historical places in Old city and later reach the food hub of Calicut and taste some of the street foods that’s mouth watering and finally we shall treat you to a limited menu lunch of authentic Calicut dishes.

Things to do

  • Historical walking tour - Under the rule of Zamorins Calicut was a major spice trade hub with for Arabs and Europeans. It was also a major port city before the rise of Kochi. Take a walking tour through the historical places located here with a guide

  • Food tasting - Visit the food hub of Kerala where you can see many wayside food stalls that sell street foods ranging from desert called “Halwa” to pickled mangoes, pineapple etc. Finally lunch at one of the local restaurant and probably try the Biryani - the most famous dish among locals.

DAY 15

After breakfast checkout of hotel and you will be transferred to Wayanad, a beautiful hill station that embraces wilderness. Sit back and enjoy as your cab navigates the hairpin curves offering breath taking views. On reaching Wayanad you will be checked into a homestay run by an elderly statesman of Wayanad tourism and his family. Check-in to your rooms that offers comfort for 2 adults and make yourself at home. Evening at leisure.

DAY 16

After delicious breakfast you will be transferred to central part of Wayanad where you would go for a 3 hr walking tour to explore the inlands of Wayanad and its authentic culture. The trail is an easy paced one covering paddy fields, grazing land, banana/arecanut/coffee plantations , temples and tribal settlements.

  • Walking tour - The trail starts off over paddy fields - after the harvest, they make for excellent grazing land. Later make your way along a little stream ,passing through plantations. The hills on the horizon, as you look around, form part of the Ambukuthy range, which also houses the famous Edakkal caves, as also the curiously named "Phantom Rock".

  • The walk will also take you through a couple of tribal settlements - we ask that you respect their privacy. In any case, the traditional mud/ grass huts that offered photographic potential have been long replaced by concrete houses.

DAY 17

After breakfast set out for sight seeing of some of the major attractions of Wayanad. Today you will be covering Edakkal caves and Muthanga wildlife sanctuary..

Things to do

  • Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary - is a rainforest which connects Nagarhole and Bandipur parks in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu. Spread over an area of 345 sq km, the sanctuary is an abode of rich flora and fauna.

  • Edakkal Caves - These caves are located 1,200 m above the sea level. The name ‘Edakkal’ literally means ‘a stone in between’. Here you can see a cave formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock. Edakkal caves are famous for its pictorial paintings (cave paintings), which are considered to be of 6000 B C. To reach the caves, one has to trek through the Ambukutty Mala. It will take around 45 minutes to climb the hill.
